Philip Lamantia papers, 1944-2005.

The Philip Lamantia Papers consist of correspondence, general files, and personal papers. Correspondence is both incoming and outgoing, and correspondents include contemporary writers: Allen Ginsberg, Michael McClure and Jack Kerouac; publishers and publishing companies; members of the Surrealist Movement; and Lamantia's mother and friends. General files make up the bulk of the collection and consist of writings by Lamantia in the form of proofs, typescripts, drafts of poems and prose, and notebooks. General files also contain works by contemporary writers, publicity and professional materials, materials from courses taught at San Francisco Art Institute, and research materials. Personal papers include documents belonging and pertaining to Lamantia's parents, Nunzio and Mary Lamantia, papers and scrapbooks from Lamantia's childhood, marriage and divorce records, and other papers. Materials removed from individual books from Lamantia's personal library are included throughout the collection.
